UMF?
UMF stands for Unique Manuka Factor—a globally recognized quality trademark governed by the UMF Honey Association (UMFHA) in New Zealand.
It offers trusted certification based not just on MGO, but a holistic evaluation of the honey’s bioactivity.

UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) is more than just a measurement of one compound like MGO — it’s a comprehensive certification system that confirms both the authenticity and therapeutic strength of genuine Manuka honey.
To ensure quality and effectiveness, the UMF rating evaluates three key bioactive compounds:
✅ 1. MGO (Methylglyoxal)
The powerhouse antibacterial compound
MGO is the reason Manuka honey stands out from regular honey.
It plays a major role in fighting bacteria, viruses, and inflammation.
The higher the UMF rating, the higher the MGO content — and the stronger the antibacterial effects.
✅ 2. DHA (Dihydroxyacetone)
The precursor to MGO
DHA is naturally found in nectar from the Manuka flower.
As the honey matures, DHA converts into MGO over time.
So, high DHA means the honey has the potential to develop even more powerful antibacterial properties as it ages.
✅ 3. Leptosperin
A unique marker exclusive to Manuka
Leptosperin is found only in the nectar of the Manuka plant and not in other types of honey.
This makes it a key marker for verifying the authenticity of true Manuka honey and detecting any adulteration or blending with other honeys.
🧪 By measuring all three compounds, the UMF system provides scientific proof that the honey is:
✔ Authentic Manuka honey
✔ Has potent, therapeutic-grade antibacterial activity
